How to care for your skin at home

Having a good skincare routine at home is essential for maintaining healthy and radiant skin. Our skin is not only the body's largest organ but also its first line of defence against environmental pollutants and harmful UV rays.

A proper skincare regimen helps protect the skin's barrier function, prevent premature ageing, and address specific skin concerns such as acne, dryness, or hyperpigmentation.

Beyond the aesthetic benefits, a consistent skincare routine contributes to overall well-being by boosting self-confidence and promoting self-care habits. In this fast-paced world, taking the time to care for your skin at home can be a valuable act of self-love and preservation.

How do I look after my skin?

The first step in looking after your skin and deciding what products are best for you is to think about what your main skincare concerns are. You can then choose a simple lineup that will meet those concerns.

All great skincare routines begin with a gentle, but effective cleanser. Use a cleanser that is gentle on the skin to remove make-up, dirt and impurities. It's important to clean your skin both morning and night. It is best to keep away from make-up wipes. Not only are the wipes bad for the environment, they often contain harsh ingredients. The dragging action that comes with using them can be very damaging. They tend to move most of the make-up and impurities around rather than remove them. Double cleanse in the evenings to ensure skin is clean before bed.

Add a serum to your lineup, serums penetrate the deeper layers of the skin and can be the first step in reaching your skincare goals.  Choose a serum that treats your main skin concern. Whether that's dryness, dehydration, lines, pigmentation, ageing or oiliness. Use your chosen serum every morning and night. Consistency is key when it comes to skincare.

Next up you need a moisturiser that will offer moisture, hydration and protection. Think again about what your skin goals are. You could even pick different ones for day and night.

Why do you need to use skincare at night? Your skin repairs itself as you sleep. So ensuring that it is cleansed from the day's activities and moisturised gives your skin round-the-clock care.

No skincare routine is complete without SPF. Try to pick SPF 30 and above. Using an SPF is your main protection from environmental damage and age prevention. Damage from the sun has the biggest impact on how your skin ages. Apply an SPF as your final step after your moisturiser or pick a moisturiser that contains great protection. SPF in your make-up alone will not offer enough protection as it does not offer even protection across the whole face and neck.
